Buddhist Term (Ākāśa): Refers to an infinite space that encompasses all things while remaining unhindered, unharmable, and immutable. It is also used as a metaphor for boundless wisdom and compassion, and serves as the origin of the name Ākāśagarbha Bodhisattva (Kokuzo Bosatsu).
 
About the Artist
Akemi Sakurai (b. 1949) is a Japanese calligrapher born in Nara Prefecture and currently based in Shizuoka Prefecture. She studied calligraphy at Nara University of Education under the renowned master Ryosetsu Imai (Sesshinkai group). She gained early national recognition during her university years with selections for prestigious exhibitions, including Nitten and the Mainichi Calligraphy Exhibition. After taking a period of sabbatical following her marriage, she fully resumed her creative career at age 50. Today, she actively creates expressive calligraphic works while mentoring students through her circle, "Sakura Sho no Kai."
